Explore the basics of portraiture –including the exposure triangle, the principles of lighting, and basic editing – and avoid the pitfalls that commonly plague beginners. In this workshop, we’ll work together to critique images and examine the various elements that make a portrait come together.

About the Instructor


Lisa Spencer is a photographer based in Bloomington, IN. She specializes in abstractions, fine art, and family documentary photography. Award-winning (six-time Voice Finalist) and internationally published (This Detailed Life, 2022), her work has been featured in books and editorials, including locally in Bloom Magazine. Her past work experience includes six years as a family and wedding photographer in Santa Cruz, CA, two years as a Peace Corps volunteer in Mozambique, and two years teaching environmental education in her home state of PA. When she's not shooting, she loves to read, travel, and spend time with her three young children.
